From supplying expertise to owning the fleet: Understanding Navigantium's go-to-market strategy

Overview

Navigantium is a Galway-based offshore and marine services company founded by Captain Robert Conneely. Bringing over 20 years of hands-on experience in heavy offshore construction, tow mastering, and marine consultancy, Navigantium is building a strong reputation supplying experts, vessels, and crew into major offshore projects across the UK, EU and beyond.

By late 2025, Navigantium wanted to explore a move from supplying expertise into the market to owning and chartering vessels directly, entering the NW European offshore vessel charter market across four vessel classes.

Robert commissioned a feasibility study, funded by Údarás na Gaeltachta, to test whether the strategy held up commercially and to give Navigantium something credible to put in front of investors.

What the project involved

The research started with ACL Shipbrokers, who provided the market context Navigantium needed as a foundation: rates, fleet trends, and vessel market overviews across all four target classes.

From there, I ran a gap analysis against that data and the wider secondary research, mapping what was already proven and where the case was still too thin to support an investment decision. That analysis shaped targeted research into the competitive landscape, the offshore wind pipeline, and how new entrants break into an established market.

Alongside the desk research, I conducted and analysed four qualitative interviews with offshore contractors, developers, and project engineers. Everything came together in a single, comprehensive feasibility report.

What Navigantium came away with

Navigantium now has a foundational go-to-market strategy: which geographies to enter and in what order, a clear read on the competitive landscape, visibility on the major infrastructure projects coming up and which vessel types they'll demand, and the rate data to commercially underpin the case.

It's a feasibility study they can put in front of Údarás na Gaeltachta and investors that holds up to scrutiny. It sets out where the market opportunity is real, where it's still constrained, and what has to happen next to move from feasibility to a funded business case.
